Lepší svet
/Bratislava/ (Better life) provides a wide scale of social services for 34
adults that have a middle or hard form of mentally handicap.
The social service pursues rehabilitation where the centre wants to activate
inner abilities of their clients. The daily activities focus on working
rehabilitation. In the morning the clients work in five workshops:
ceramic, textile, art, painting on the glass and mixed (open
activities according needs). In the afternoon they have various relaxed
program. They are offered also to work and help in the garden.
The centre runs also an assisted housing for its 12 clients where
they can learn how to live independently and caff for visitors to drink
coffee or tee and to see some products of the centre. The main aim of the
centre is an integration of the clients into the major society as much as it
is possible. (2 volunteers/11 months)

Bilingvalne gymnazium C. S.
Lewis /Bratislava/
provides an alternative to the public state schooling. The
mission of the school is
development of the potential of every student; guidance of students think
creatively and critically; working in team; respecting each other;
communication in
an international environment and openness to life-long education. The
gymnasium educates and leads students towards responsibility,
honesty and
self-sustainability
in the spirit of Christian biblical
values. The school provides a 5 year bilingual program of English language,
has 5 grades and 2 classes in each. The accent on
foreign languages studies means that beside an intense English
study there is also a possibility to learn Spanish and German. The students
are at age of 15 to 19. C.S. Lewis cooperates closely with the elementary
school Narnia where also space for work with children at age 6-14.
Besides a regular school process there are also free time activities.

Betania Bratislava n.o.
is an
activation geriatric centre that provides a 24-hour
care to old and immobile persons who are dependant on a
direct help of the other person. The centre provides a health and social
care with 22 beds. Some are assigned for all-year temporary nursing care and
some for the long term pensioner’s home. Experienced nurses execute the
social service at the high professional level and tactfully help those who,
due to their high age or aggravated health condition, have found themselves
in difficult situations. The clients are provided with a comprehensive,
continuous medical, social and Christian orientated care; community
rehabilitation; health-pedagogic and spiritual-pastoral care and social
prevention as well as the guidance during the everyday activities. The
centre endeavours to create a pleasant family type environment where staff
allows residents to spend the rest of its clients life with a dignity,
providing them an acceptance, love, sensitive care, understanding and
security. For a support of the self-reliance and independence the centre
uses an active therapy,
artetherapy, bibliotherapy,
music therapy and psychomotor therapy and other incentive program.

Betania Senec
n.o. - provides continuous social
welfare service for 12 clients who stay in a shelter house year-round and 6
clients that use our workshops daily and fell safely and protected. It
executes its activity as a shelter home of social services for
mentally handicapped adult persons. The main aim of the project is
to bring a new alternative in the life of handicapped people, while
respecting her/his specific characteristics and allowing the client to
independently decide on the life around her/him. The professional staff
tactfully guides the clients and provides them with comprehensive,
Christian-oriented care in a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. (1 volunteer/11

Comenius University, Faculty
of Natural Sciences
/Bratislava/ - The emphasis is on
work with young people - the students of our Faculty. The
volunteers can work in our self access centre, where students not only
borrow books but also spend their leisure time. The volunteers might have
the role of consultants and assist students with language tasks – depending
on mother tongue of the volunteer. Faculty starts several clubs of interest,
e.g. a film club, an intercultural club and/or a discussion club. The film
club would enable the volunteers to present movies from their country of
origin, and each watching would be followed by a discussion about lifestyle,
culture, customs and traditions. The intercultural club could become a forum
for interesting discussions on intercultural topics. The objective of the
literary club would be reading and analyzing short stories, poems and novels
by German, English and Slovak writers. Discussion club offers an opportunity
for students to formulate their own opinions in a foreign language, i.e. in
mother tongue of the volunteer. Depending on their capabilities, the
volunteers can be personally involved in developing additional free-time
activities with the support of our department. The volunteers are also
expected to be assistant teachers of their native tongue under the
supervision of an experienced department teacher. (2 volunteers/11 months)

The Deutsch-Slowakische
Begegnungsschule Bratislava
– is a private school
with kindergarten.
The parents have a special expectation in the work
and success of the education.
The school enrols about 70 children in four groups in the
Kindergarten (age 3-6) and elementary school class 1-4 and gymnasium 5-8
class. Altogether about 25 full-time teachers are
working with the children. Beside the normal school program, DSB offers day
care and is open from Monday till Friday from 7.30 am till 5.30 pm, which
means, that many children attend the school the whole day and have to be
looked after and also lost of various free time activities. 80% of the
children are Slovak, 20% of the kids are German native speakers. The aim of
the school is the German Abitur (Matura). The school grow each year with at
least one more class. The study programme is provided in German and Slovak
language. (4 volunteers/11

umbrella organization with its 12 member has diverse activities thanks to its programs and working groups.
Member
churches offer to the volunteers various activities in its members´
movement. The volunteers will be also helping the coordinator of the
volunteer program.

office of the Lutheran church in Slovakia; assistance at the
Christian lyceum (conversation); free time activities with
kids or assistance at the activation geriatric centre
